IcoTypo
Context
I noticed that the internet is full of awesome copyright-free icon and typography resources, so I decided to build a print on demand shop to showcase designs based on some of these designs.
I also wanted an opportunity to build a brand that would represent positivity and simplicity with just a drop of activism. I chose to use a purely black/white/gray color palette to solidify this brand identity. My plan as the shop grows is to create special product lines that will support charitable causes.
Objective
To build a print-on-demand shop showcasing designs made from free icon and typography resources.
Process
I started by finding public domain quotations and identifying words that inspired me. I then searched for matching icons (using SVGRepo) and fonts (using Google Fonts and DaFont) to complete the designs. I did most of this process in a livestream on Youtube which you can watch at this link.
I selected Printful as a print-on-demand provider because of their consistent quality and worldwide availability. I carefully selected a limited line of products to cover a good range of popular items without creating an overload or options for customers to consider (analysis paralysis).
Printful integrates nicely with WordPress and WooCommerce, so I chose this stack of technologies for building my site. I built the site using a GeneratePress template that has been customized.
Management of the shop includes tracking orders, keeping up with website updates, and financial accounting.
Results
I'm still working on tracking stats for the shop, but it is open for business!
